Reader's Theater

We have several sets of Reader's Theaters available in the bookroom at SHPThey are located at the back of the bookroom on the short bookshelf.  But teachers and students can create Reader's Theater scripts, too!  Reader's Theaters are great for developing fluency, building vocabulary and deepening comprehension.  Here is some information about Reader's Theater.

Scholastic website definition: (http://www.scholastic.com/librarians/programs/whatisrt.htm)

Readers Theater is an integrated approach for involving students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities.  It involves children in….

  • sharing literature,
  • reading aloud,
  • writing scripts,
  • performing with a purpose, and
  • working collaboratively

Read-Write-Think website explanation:http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/readers-theatre-172.html

Students become excited and enthusiastic about reading when they are presented with the opportunity to participate in Readers Theatre. ...Students develop scripts, perform in groups, and practice using their voice to depict characters from texts. Through this activity, students have the opportunity to develop fluency and further enhance comprehension of what they are reading.
